Accomplishment, Pleasantries and don’t believe the hype

Accomplishment: I was able to sign up for internet banking, link my korean account to my migook account and do it all by myself. Of course “Sun Hwa” has seen me twice before but she has only spoken to my Korean teacher. She is bashful when speaking in English but was good enough to understand me and explain enough to have me have my co-teacher call her tomo. I was a bit nervous because I couldn’t check if the correct account had been linked until I got home. After I finally got home from my 2 bus bus ride ( I got on the WRONG BUS), I looked and voila… it was right. I felt a big sense of relief and happiness. Now if only the REST of my ends would come, we’d be on to something and cookin’ with grease.

Pleasantries: Since I was allowed to leave early to handle my banking, I decided to take some time on a solo trip and walk the block over to check out downtown Donghae. I saw a dunkin donuts, Angel-in-us coffee, Wa Bar, La Paix (that gave me a decent milkshake after a school dinner and where I’m taking EVERYBODY who visits me for a night trip to the lounge lol), a Pizza Hut, Adidas, Baskin Robbins, Paris Baguette and everything else in Korean. It was good to get down there by myself and actually see what was going on. I walked back to e-mart because I HAD to find something healthy and NOT starch. I also needed a shower filter. When I was leaving, one of the younger guys comes up and says, “HELLO” about 2 feet away from me while I’m looking in my cart to get my bags. I say “Hi.” (smile) He says “where are you from?” I say Los Angeles. (I’m over the USA-migook, CALIFORNIA, LOS ANGELES bit. I just get straight to the point now.) Of course his eyes light up and he repeats and does the famous korean “”” ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo” So I laugh and he says “byyyye” I say bye and head to the street. I can still hear him saying Los Angeles to his co-worker. While I’m waiting for the light to change, I hear a screaming “I LOVE YOU” I look back and he is just a waving… I laughed and waved back. That made me happy. But then I got on the wrong bus in the wrong shoes and that high was gone… QUICK. lol

Don’t believe the hype: this damn food is NOT cheap. I spent 78,000 damn won on some wings, pineapple juice, frozen shrimp (because EVERYTHING ELSE WAS PORK AND IN KOREAN), a 12,000 shower head and lettuce. Of course I had a COUPLE of extra things but I only ended up with 2 bags. Upon coming here all I heard was “o everything is so cheap” WRONG. Everything is so cheap if you are willing to convert completely in your diet and eat rice and kimchi all day everyday, if you want food that reminds you of home and won’t give you a mental breakdown from eating it all the time, you WILL drop some change.
